The Severed Tail follows a Piglet who embarks on a surreal journey through a fetishistic underworld after her tail has been cut off by a farmer. With a Puppy as her guide, the Piglet is subjected to a fever dream of torments—being whipped, licked, and bound into a seahorse tail. The film embraces fantasy and play as a safe space for taking possession of trauma amidst a sea of pain. To create the work, Simnett immersed herself in Pup Play and LARP communities in Berlin, with some of the people she met becoming performers in the film. The Severed Tail is shot by Robbie Ryan BSC (The Favourite, American Honey), choreographed by Kiani Del Valle, and scored by Colin Self.
